Your foreign documents, ordered for you
For your application, the Swiss authorities often ask for recent documents from your home country, with an apostille and a translation. We order them through our partners and the consulates.
Which documents?
- Birth certificate (often a recent full-length extract)
- Marriage or divorce certificate, or partnership certificate
- Birth certificates of children born abroad
- Certificate of no impediment to marriage or certificate of nationality, depending on the case
The exact list depends on your canton, your marital status and what is already recorded in the Swiss civil registry (Infostar). The pre-check draws it up for you.
Apostille or legalisation?
If your country has signed the Hague Convention, the document receives an apostille issued by the competent authority in that country. If not, it needs legalisation by the country's foreign ministry and then by the Swiss representation. Some countries are exempt under bilateral agreements. We check which rule applies to your country.
Our prices
- Ordering a foreign document: CHF 120 per document, plus the cost of the document in that country and postage.
- Obtaining the apostille: CHF 60 per document, plus the country's apostille fee and postage.
- Certified translation: according to our rate card, minimum CHF 90 per order.
Timescales
Depending on the country, allow 2 to 8 weeks to obtain an apostilled document. We place the orders at the very start, alongside the Swiss certificates, so they do not delay your application.
FAQ
Do I need to travel to my home country?
In most cases, no. We work through our local partners or the consulate. Some countries require a power of attorney, which we help you prepare.
My certificate is several years old. Is it still valid?
The authorities often ask for a certificate issued within the last 6 months. It depends on the canton and the type of document.
