Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions our clients ask most often.

How many years do I need to live in Switzerland to become a citizen?

10 years for ordinary naturalisation (years between the ages of 8 and 18 count double, with at least 6 years of actual residence), plus 2 to 5 years in the canton. For the spouse of a Swiss citizen: 5 years of residence and 3 years of marriage.

Do I need a C permit?

Yes for ordinary naturalisation. No for facilitated naturalisation as the spouse of a Swiss citizen.

What level of French do I need?

At least B1 spoken and A2 written, in the official language of your canton. The fide language passport is the most common certificate.

How much does naturalisation cost?

Official fees range from about CHF 875 to over CHF 2,500 for an adult, depending on the canton and municipality. Our fees are on top: from CHF 290.

How long does the procedure take?

Between 18 months and 3 years for ordinary naturalisation, depending on the canton, and about 12 to 24 months for facilitated naturalisation.

Can I keep my original nationality?

Switzerland accepts dual nationality. But some countries withdraw their nationality from people who acquire another one: check the law in your home country.

Can my children be naturalised with me?

Yes, minor children who live with you are generally included in your application, with requirements adapted to their age.

I have received social assistance. Is that a problem?

You must not have received social assistance in the 3 years before the application, unless it has been repaid in full. Some cantons, such as Bern, are stricter.

Do you translate documents?

Yes, we do certified translations ourselves, and we also order civil-status documents and apostilles in your home country.

In which languages can you support me?

French, English, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Albanian, Serbian and Russian.

Is the pre-check refunded?

It is deducted from your package if you then entrust your application to us. It is not refunded once the report has been delivered.
